Titre Testing

This simple blood test identifies whether your dog really needs its booster this year, reducing unnecessary vaccinations.

Our vet will analyse the blood sample taken from your pet and, if the test result shows that your dog already has a good level protection against the tested diseases (usually Distemper, Hepatitis & Parvovirus), you have the choice of avoiding the risks of over-vaccination. * This approach offers less strain on your pet’s immune system without risking disease. If, however, your pet is shown to have insufficient protection, then you will know for certain that it is advisable to vaccinate them that year.

Titre testing, instead of routinely giving out boosters, is recommended by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA). Please note, this test is only suitable for animals that have been vaccinated at some stage in their past. We cannot use Titre Testing to assess levels of protection against Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough.

We offer clinics south of Hereford and in neighbouring Gloucestershire on a regular basis. We also visit local dog clubs.

*Repeated antigenic challenge may cause hypersensitivity reactions which could cause harm. The effect is described as “over immunisation”. The importance of vaccines is stressed in papers but “Unnecessary vaccination must be discouraged. Hypersensitivity reactions to vaccine components are real and must be guarded against.” Tizard IR, Adverse consequences of vaccination. Vaccines for Veterinarians, 2021; 115-130.
